Initially, I was having trouble getting access/finding much wildlife in London. It was very difficult to get decent recordings in the city that didn’t involve the noise of traffic or people in the street. However, I decided that maybe my best shot at capturing interspecies sound would be to travel to a city farm! Not being from London, I had never heard of a city farm before (NYC has no city farms) and was not sure what to expect. I decided to take a trip to Vauxhall City Farm and start recording. There I was able to record plenty of bird, goat, sheep, and chicken sounds. The farm seemed a little rundown and a bit sad in my opinion. It seemed like there wasn’t much space for the animals and was more of a petting zoo than a farm. This saddened me but did get me thinking about creating a composition around this urban farm place. I’m envisioning something that might capture my feeling of being there.
