Oshiro is an artist that creates self-made instruments and constructs installations. “Kachi Kachi” is one of Oshiro’s many instruments. The small-looking cans are made with “an electro-magnetic relay, which is an electronic component / physical switch driven by a coil and makes a “click (kachi)” sound, combined with a variable timer circuit that controls the frequency of the clicks.” When the instruments operate they create “parallel textures.”
Oshiro’s installations utilize sound, light, and, movement. His monitors instead of being used mainly for sound are also used as objects to create sculptures. In “Kinema 58, 59” The monitors create beats from different sine waves.
“Braids & Knots” was one of Oshiro’s installations in a huge warehouse. The point of the installation was to make the most of the space, so Oshiro attached junk objects to the speakers. Later his installation “Strings” would be inspired by “Braids & Knots.” The strings would be attached to the monitors and would start to take the shape of a sine wave as they floated in the air.
