Deere’s “Gestural Audio-Visual” VR project has a clear goal for what they want to elicit from the audience or what they want the audience to experience. Deere has compiled research and knowledge on an altered state experience. Her project uses stages of color and sound to fulfill a meditative event. In many ways, Deere’s process is applicable to that of games design as well. Creating a visual environment that corresponds with appropriate sounds can build a powerful game world. It seems important to have a clear idea of what your VR game is getting out to accomplish. TOO BEE is designed to fall into the category of a zen gaming genre, which means it should produce a calming state of engagement “putting your brain in pause mode, relaxation mode or even automation mode.” With this in mind going forward it would be wise to refine the sounds and analyze if the sounds I am currently using contribute to this state. If any sounds are jarring it might not be a great fit for the genre. I want to work on the environmental sounds so that feel more pacifying and soothing. I am planning on introducing other elements such as moving water and I would like to keep this type of energy in mind.
